Not done one myself, but seems to be venue, ring, and st. johns abulance are gunna be the largest costs, and basically you will make some money, but not much for alot of organizing and a long days work. Most of the time, the money coming in is produced by charging ppl to compete, but most guys are willing to punt up as they are gratefull for the experiance.

I have worked on a few events and been involved in organising some grappling comps. They are loads of hard work but I really enjoy it. I would love to run my own sometime in the future and I am planning a big grappling comp either later this year or next yeat.

If you are looking to run a big MMA show with £25 plus tickets prices be prepared to possibly lose money or maybe break even at a stretch. Then if the event is a massive hit and you can build on the reputation to run more events and then you may make some money. I really woudnt advise jumping straigh on in there unless you have money to burn. The next show you go to, make a list of all the things you can see going on around the cage and it will give you an idea.

An full on evening event will require:
Venue hire, cage hire, paramedics, fighter insurance, risk asssessments, public liability insurance of 2-10 million £, payment for judges, ref and mc, ring girls, staff as runners, walkie talkies hire, security, advertising and printing costs, equipment such as gloves etc....the list and cost goes on!

A good realtionship with a number of Club coaches is also required so you can fill the fight card with less chance of pull outs.

If you are looking for a daytime event with no fighter fees or serious price ticket sales, it wont be too difficult or expensive. ZT is an excellent eample of a really well run and well respected amateur event.

Personally I'd start with an in house at your own club or maybe an interclub first? These wont make you any money but as people pay to enter, you should cover the costs at least. The venue requirements vary a lot so start with them and then someone who can help you out with all the H&S side of things (risk assessments, first aid requirements etc).

I have been to some poorly run events where it was clear they had no idea, and most of them never run to a second show.
