All the gear and no idea

    Hi guys,
I am new to MMA. Is there an unwritten rule about what you wear when you are training?
I would like to train wearing the appropriate gear so I know what it feels like and get used to it.
On the flip side of the coin is it disrespectful to wear MMA shorts etc if you have never been in the ring??
What would more experienced guys think if a new bloke turned up wearing fight gear??
I would add at the moment i wear my rugby shorts and an old t-shirt for both my kickboxing and BJJ (no GI) sessions.
    What is the general consensus?

Anything without zips or rivets is fine with us, otherwise we dont really pay attention. Makes sense to turn up in the gear if you have it.

But dont be surprised if you favorite MMA branded t shirts rips or gets stretched, none of them are really designed to actually do MMA or grappling in. Rash guards are the best thing but if you dont have one then a cheap t-shirt is the way to go.

    LMFAO - some funny responses.

Yeah, mate I'd say wear what you want board shorts are good (aka MMA shorts) as they are hard wearing and designed so you can kick etc in em and a rashguard stops you getting your limbs caught in each others tee's when rolling - but as long as your clothes are clean and you don't tee bag/or injure anyone with em then no-one really cares (imho) - it's always nice to look (and feel) the part tho and obviously if you can afford a decent pair of gloves and other protective gear then you'd be wise to get em :thumb

Years ago I used to think if someone had all the right gear he/she knew alot about what they where doing but as the sport has crossed over I regularly come across guys (including myself) who wear the right gear but are absolutely crap
So wear whatever you feel comfortable in, just bulletproof vests and superman costumes are a little unfair on your training partners

My Sprawl shorts i've had for a good few years now, they are showing signs of falling apart on the velcro strap area but overall they still look and feel new. other shorts like the Triumph united ones i threw in the bin after 3months as they were wrecked.
So yea a decent pair of shorts are worth the money - countless hours rolling in these and they are still wearable...

Oh and good advice from GOW MMA as branded tee's can be expensive and are more fashion conscious rather than fight conscious so any form of grappling and they get ripped to shreds. leave the mma shirts for impressing the girls and scaring the boys (unless your Jeevan)
