I've found training less with more intensisty is deffo the way forward (for me - especially as recovery can be a bit of an issue - 36 this year).

Lee has deffo made me an Marc alot fitter (marc has fitness and youth on his side and can basically cut or bulk at will now).

I am now cycling my workouts better as well ...so have more of a set focus rather than cram everthing in...currently starting a limit strength / bulking phase to get more muscle on me - am then gonna maintain whilst getting my thai skillz up then cut abit - so should have more muscle when cutting to single digit bodyfat.

Yeah sparring is defo the way forwards, and like said above, sorounding yourself with better fighters will help you in leaps and bounds, both on the pads and sparring.

Thai wise, its good to be with better fighters, but with me, there were bout 4-5 of us, all started the same time roughly, and started fighting together, so we all progressed together, pushed each other and the more we tried to get ahead, the more the group progressed. I dont know if your club does any sqaud sessions that are just for fighters, coz having a normal class isnt gunna help with the intensity for fighting, cant spar properly with all the members. And with a select few, get down to a gym/ring, do a decent warm up, heavy pads, then some ring sparring, the ones who sit out can coach and keep an eye on the guys in the ring, give them advice, make sure they dont lose their heads and slug it out.

Agreed RSP sparring is the way forward.

A good training technique if your training for a fight is to train with a fresh partner each round. For example; If fighting C Class Thai then you fight 1.5 minutes x 5 rounds, Get 5 of your training partners toghether and for each round use a fresh opponent.

......and i've just realised thats similar to what RSP said in his first post

    I like that.

Ill try an arrange a squad session.

Is that 1.5 round after round without a break in between?

Well depends, you can only do 1.5min rounds with say 4-5 fresh oppenants with bout 15sec switch over/rest or you can do more with 30sec, and in the session you could have 6-10 rounds of skipping, 3 rounds of shadow boxing, 3-5 rounds of decent to hard pad rounds, then do the sparring. Tho you can do just the skipping and go into loads of rounds. I remember once I did 12 rounds with my instructor (same height but bout 20odd kg on me) and he commented that 12 rounds were not good enough and prob was right).

If your going for a 1.5min round, change your pad/sparring sessions to that as well, so your body gets used to the timing, its very useful if you can judge that in the ring. I used to use the concept of if im doing a 1.5min round, id do some condtioning/timing rounds to specifically 1.5min, but as for pads, try and do a pad round 3 times longer than the fight round. Same went for my runs, id treat each 1.5mile as one round, have a breather inbetween those tho. (if you dont do long runs, do 3 rounds of circuit training rounds).

What i usually do it is 5 X 1.5 minute rounds with 40 second rest in between each round so it is as close to a C class bout as i can get as that's what I'm training for.

    Some quality posting rsp :thumb
