Taking your training to another, what did you do?

Hey all, have you guys become more committed to training or upped your game?

Specifically, changed your training or diet since youve either started fighting on shows, been doing it longer, wanting to fight on a show etc. as opposed to training as a hobby or just for fun.

What did you do different from training for fun to training to cause some damage in the ring?

Running, didnt do anything for my diet as I was always at or under my fight weight, but Im trying to keep up with supps now for training and the vits, didnt lift weights as it would add to my bodyweight(so I believed b4, but now I do compound lifts once a week).

Sparring was the major change, went down to a boxing ring with my main instructor and a select few lads who all were in the same boat as me, and duked it out most saturdays. It helped to get comfortable in the ring, made you realise how it feels to be under pressure(no so much to land the heavy ko blows, but performance wise, which is what can be the winner for decision fights), ie you have sessions where you face 4 guys for a min each, and have a rotational system so you then do it for them.

More rounds where you can only defend(take in turns), also did a killer one once, where every partner(were 10 pairs) had one guy on the ropes, and could only defend (your partner attacks), We had to rotate with all 10 guys, then it was the swap over to do the attacking.

Like most ppl will say, to get better and stronger at it, do it more often, ie train 6 times a week (not every session has to be guns blazing, use some for pure tech or pure speed), and do your running early in the morning before work if possible.

Ps dont be hard on yourself if you think the progress isnt coming fast enough. It took me a long time to build on it, and it has to be a constant thing, no odd months of time off(unles for injury), ive left it for a while now, and the other guys have left me in their dust( all have at least an English title)

This should be in the bible -

    RSP, nice one dude.

Lucky you were on weight, lol, its quite an annoyance to think about it whilst prepping for a fight.

Will spar more though, do more those drills to block and receive and heavy hits getting used to the power.

I train regularly but was thinking of changing a few things, namely spar more often, perhaps 3 times a week.

I started on the rice cakes and fish diet - yummy

Actually the best thing i ever done which totally changed my training and training mentality was train with a a personal trainer/strength coach who also is also a pro MMA fighter - Luckily we sponsor him and he is a good mate so we get to train with him a lot - i thought my cardio was good until i started training proper HIT training, no i realise i wasted a hell of a lot of time in the gym
