How exactly is it a choke? Whilst not being an expert, far from it. In fact Ive never officially been taught a triangle choke, happened to be in a situation where it was the only thing I could think of so I tried one.
Got it on to be as I thought it should be, just didnt seem to do much. Granted they couldnt really do much but struggle, but definitely wasnt "choking" them. Anyways, I just wondered if theres something I'm missing or anything I'm likely to be doing wrong? I ended up moving into an armbar and getting a tap so it was all good |

Don't go to submissions 101 but do have a look around at the mechanics on the internet! As Si-K said, it's a blood choke and you're restricting the arteries by 'clamping' the neck using your leg and their own shoulder.

Ta for the help people. Yeah sounds like I wasn't pushing my hips up enough. Plus I didnt know it was a blood choke.
Watched BAMMA2 off my sky+ last night, guy lost a title fight from tapping to a triangle choke in about 3 seconds. Must of been locked on ridiculously well. |

if done right, no can defend.
The angle is pivotal...keep practicing it or have someone good put it on you so you know what the sensation is and what it feels like - when I was starting out I found that helped me grasp the particular submission, when I could feel what it was doing to me. |

We did a 35 + minute segment on the "Anatomy of the Triangle Choke". You can see a little part of it in the clip below. It is the second series of videos in the series. Hope this helps a little.

Ta for the video Dr. Sick, was definitely a useful watch.
Have checked out submissions101 aswell and also found that fairly helpful. Had a quick practise earlier and found my friend took more of an exception and enjoyed it much less than last time, so must of been doing something better |

as stated above let someone triangle you a couple of times - this is really useful with all submissions as you get the feel of what is happening and why people tap (if you have any basic instinct as well you will automatically try to get out of it - even if you don't know how) so this will give you an insight into what/how people will react (so you can be prepared to act on their movement in advance) until you get more knowledge - an then you will know how the experienced fighters will react, which will again help you be proactive when rolling....and set up a move (or 2) in adavance - game of human chess anyone?!.

Although some of the stuff on Submissions 101 is valid, please look into the background of the guys presenting (often questionable) techniques. Google Ari Bolden Submissions 101 or something.
Quite shocking that it got so popular really! |
