I woke up this morning feeling a bit rough (sore throat, aching etc) should I take a couple days off training. I heard somewhere that training with a cold can make it worse

Take some time off training puts a lot of stress on your body if your allready under the weather you will only make it worse

its hard to judge how unwell some one else is feeling but a genral rule is if its above the shoulders ie bit of a blocked/runny nose or sore throat ull be ok, if u ache below the shoulders dont train, u can do urself alot of damage trainning with a virus tho.

if you just have a cold sometimes its good to sweat it out of you. Depends how bad you are really. although you do have to be careful if anyone in your gym has a fight coming up as you dont want to give them anything

Ste's right there, strength will more than likly still be there but cardio and endurence as well as general energy levels will be down. Ste mate, if its that bad you should take 1-3 weeks off and when you come back you'll prob surpass where you were before.

again...hard to judge - I'm with Wingnut I've sweated out many a light cold (and the last half of a migraine tonight
- an got a new PB for my strength/endurance circuit woop woop) if it's bordering flu like then rest - also if you are getting alot of flu like symptoms this could be a sign of overtraining - so have a good look at your activities/diet and general lifestyle.......Nightnurse is my saviour!!!!.

I've had some form of chest infection for the last 9 weeks now, missed the first 4 weeks of training, took a 5 day course of ant-biotics and it done nothing. After 4 weeks i couldnt stand staying in the house anymore and start heading to training again.
Cant get rid of it, when i cough i cough up flem but its that dry it sticks to my throat and sometimes causes me to choke :/. It's not really been effecting my training that much, i've just not been able to put in 100% everytime. I think it may be the same cause thats making my left ear make cracking sounds every now and again.

sounds like overtraining symptoms to me - if you can't put in 100% then it is affecting your training - take your time off and recover then ease back into it....you can carry on going at 70% and then having to pack in after a couple of months and take time off or you can take time off recover quicker (as not full blow) and come back stronger..in the long run from my experience prevention is better than cure.
When you do come back it's important to try and toggle between a hard day and an easy day - I know this is hard as you never know what the plan is when you go to a mma gym - one day go full throttle (full power if lesson permits) then next ease off the pace a bit and go for speed rather than all out power - this should stop overtraining in the long run - obviously keep your nutrition in line with your goals - have a day off once a week and relax with the food intake abit (i.e have an extra 500 cals that day) |
