Default Ear protection

Hi guys, not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes:

so, i had my first MMA session on monday night. Now the only thing that has put me off doing it sooner was the dreaded 'cauliflower ear'. I have a job where that would most definately be frowned upon...plus i hate the way they look.

After the session my ears were killing from the grappling/bjj and im worried that they will cauliflower if i subject them to this twice a week?!

none of the guys at the gym wear head gear for bjj but im thinking maybe something like a scrum cap (or an mma equivalent) would be a wise investment?

alternatively i've been looking at Hayabusa headguards that i could use for standup and BJJ. would that limit my ability to get out of submissions on the floor? (this is my preffered solution if it will work)

any suggestions? help please. :)

Unless, you have a rolling partner using dirty tactics the headguard would be the cheaper (and best ) all round solution imho...they are decent for taking head shots and will not get in the way or slip or anything when rolling, obviously if you bought the scrum cap and then a "boxers" headguard you will have to pay out twice and from my experiences over the years the Hayabusa headguard is much better than 99% of the headguards on the market that I have tried....and you can the practice full MMA with one guard .

I did a review on earguards in an issue of MMA Unltd (can't think which one of the top of my head) but the best value for money was the Brute shockwave. Comfortable and reasonably priced. Worth checking out, CKA martial arts supplies stock them,as do a few others.
