    bad hip has given up

I've had a sore hip and leg for a few months which had now finally given up on me. My dynamic kicks were causing problems a while back so I went to the physio and got balanced and the long hip flexor muscle stripped out. A few months later it returned, since I was going to take around 6 works off while getting married and honeymoon I figured I would relax and let it heal. Anyway went back to training and now its hurting while sitting and walking. Totally gutted, I've been to doctors to get referred to a physio but could take months then it may take 6 months to fully heal. I'm off training completely now and no idea when I'll be going back. Totally lost all motivation todo anything and i can't believe how stressed i get without kickboxing to let it out.

Cautionary tale to get the smallest thing checked out as soon as possible.

I'm sure their is a way round it mate...I have 2 bust knees and like others we all have injuries and find a way around it - you could at least box?!.

Have you tried PNF strectching to help your hip flexors - type it in you tube - lots of physio's demonstrating rehab pnf stretching.

I have just suffered from siatica - my mate done trigger point on me and then told me about pnf stretching (got me to strech) - bearing in mind I actually tapped out when he was doing trigger point, the pain was something else (he kept going LOL)...then we done PNF streching for my hip flexor - he reckoned I trapped a never doing kettlebells, common problem if hips tight...2 days later Lee Chadwick our personal trainer was beasting us on a circuit as usual. Check out You Tube well worth a try. Best of luck :thumb

a friend of mine was told earlier in the year that he had the knees of a 70 year old, and he's nly 21, this after being out for the majority of the last 3 years aswell due to long injuries .. 6 months later, he's playing footy in the top flight

As long as you listen to what doctors, specialists, physios say .. you stand a good chance of getting back to where you want to be

Keep strong in your head mate .. keep coming back for support if you need it , once it takes ouver you psychologically, you've flopped .. don't let that happen

    GOOD LUCK

Quick update ya'll finally got my NHS physio and it turns out that I might actually get somewhere. She had to stop me about 6 times while I laid out my training history and issues, I may have seemed a bit over enthusiastic to return to my loving sport
    Then things got .....
    Interesting
She got me out of my clothes, Eyed my up, bit of a prod and poke. Then had me bend over "as far as I can". The has me sprawl out on the bed in various positions. Before asking me to wear smaller undies next time. Who said the NHS is shite
She gave me 3 simply exercises to strengthen the hip joint supporting muscles.

Got another appointment next Tuesday for some adjustments and further assesment. Not letting this go until Im back training and kicking ass.

BTW totally pissed that Im back at 14 stone, took fookin ages to drop that weight.

Back in the game, well kind of....

Im back training 2 days a week, very slow kata style kicking to build up strength in legs. Still doing physio, focusing on boxing and footwork. Looking at swimming to help shift the weight too.

All of the physio is helping to improve my balance too so by the end I should be kicking a lot stronger than before too.
Thanks for the support, Im not sure when/if i'll be taking up MMA as me and the wife are looking at spending a year in Australia on working holiday visa, will see if I can get in some gyms while there

Well easy come, easy go. After physio last wednesday I went training as normal on Thursday only to twinge my back and end up with Sciatica. Ended up in hospital Friday morning and getting some Diazapam. Since then i've been hobbling around the house loaded up on solphadol. Yey Me.:thumb

The Diazapam was great, I was upright and walking fine in 15 minutes. The only issue came at 11:00pm that night when I was laying on the bed and it wore off instantly. Total agony and I had no strength to move myself to a painless position, had to drag myself into foetal position to stop the pain.

The Solphadol just removes the pain, I've had no strength in my back to stand up straight, been using a walking stick so im not bent over constantly. If I spend an hour on my back I get 5 minutes on my feet before I start keeling over again. These are starting to lose the edge and Im starting to ache more now. Hope the physio can sort me though
