oooooh, lots of nice advice there, the thing is, on a practical level I'd rather take karate because the lessons are free, and I do it with a few of my mates.

I'm not going to give in, don't worry about that guys, this is far too much fun, and I can manage to make saturday and sunday sessions if I just go out on a friday night. Also in terms of taking a BJJ lesson, the only night I'm free is tuesday, maybe wednesday, because I'm doing karate as my games option in 6th form, so it finishes at 3pm ish. As for the other 2 nights, they are with the school as well but after school, about 4-6pm.

I'm taking the muay thai lesson because mainly its at the same gym, and I want to hit the ground running and train a fair bit, I think its helping me kick though, so I don't want to give it up too early, and yes, I think I'm doing it more towards MMA, but I wouldn't mind doing some muay thai, I think my build is more suited to that.

Also the reason I think my ground game is my strength is because I'm better than all my mates, but they've only ever done karate, and a bit of MMA, so I might not be gauging myself correctly, who knows, I might go to an BJJ class and not be too bad.

And again karate is more kickboxing than anything else, its not point based at all, and when we do sparring its just kickboxing, no sweeps or anything, we learn a bit of aikido too occasionally, which is great fun.

Thanks for all the welcomes btw guys, seems like a nice forum.

You guys really sure about this? I'd consider dropping 1 lesson of it (monday or thursday) to do a brazillian jiu jitsu class, tbh, I don't see why I can't take karate and BJJ? The karate is great for keeping me fit, I have a great coach, he's much more of a kickboxer, the guy's a great lad.

Anywhere good in newcastle to do brazillian jiu jitsu? I remember I saw a place, but can't remember it for shit

Hi PiP, don't let anyone stop you from doing karate, if you enjoy it do it, just i'm reiterating what Jay says in that Karate sucks.
Why? its better than nothing but maybe the karate lessons are free for a reason?

You may have a great coach, but if he's so good at kickboxing i'd be asking him for KB lessons forget the Karate.

And theres a crapload of pro fighters from the north east, google search Total combat and check their forum, full of geordies into MMA.
    Stick around here though

Nobody thinks karates a waste, in fact it's great for MMA. Just don't break your knuckles for no cunt, unless they are butting your first, then it's okay.

    Welcome also.

Okay I skipped the thread. XD

I'd drop a lesson or two of karate for solid ground work... BJJ...

We were talking about it today, and he says that its kickboxing he teaches, its just he enters us for continuous karate opens, and he's paid to teach karate, but it is all kickboxing, I even have a wuma kickboxing license through him, and besides he's the English Scottish and European kickboxing champion he's class.
