Noob Looking for direction.
Hi Guys,
This is Paul from Eccles. I'm 28 and looking to learn MMA for fitness and defense. I've always had a keen interest in Martial Arts since I was a teenager but unfortunately never had the opportunity to commit to classes. I did train with a friend who was studying Muay Thai at the time and I really enjoyed it. If anyone could recommend a good gym/programme around Eccles/Saflord Manchester I would appreciate the help as I am a complete noob.

Welcome Paul.. I would recommend Predators http://www.manchester-mma.com under Gav Boardman who is a quality Jiujitsu instructor, decent team at predators including Avi Jack, Sinclair Bro's etc etc.... the current premises is literally 2min walk from Victoria Station (men arena) if this is a trek then just check out the Salford Fight Factory, they have decent facilities including a cage and the regular mod cons, the training there is much to be desired interms of Bjj (brazilian jiujitsu) but all is good.
SBG-UK is superb aswell, google their website. Karl Tanswell is the main tutor there notables include female MMA star Rosi Sexton... Top Class BJJ

Thanks for the support guys. I was thinking of starting starting with some private tuts to get my confidence up. The Predator Gym looks great and is real close to where I live.

How do. Don't bother with private stuff. Most places are very. Welcoming and understand how to deal with beginners. Just get stuck in.

But could I not progress quicker with private lessons? I don't know the lesson format or how much you work on?

I've never had private lessons so I don't know. What I do know is that with a class you will have other beginners. You can check how other people do things. You will learn how to pad. Push each other to train hard and see how you progress against you're mates. Just the whole thing of being part of a team, a co-operative type of thang.Rolling or sparring with your coach is not the same as sparring with other students. You will learn how to put what you learn into practice. But that's my opinion. See what the guys n gals here have say.
