    Switching Stance

I've always trained southpaw but since doing my knee in I've been so much weaker with my left it's unreal so tried my first change of stance today, found things a lot snappier but I'm at risk of losing my front hook (my best shot) if I'm changing up.

Anyone train both and regularly swap? I know it's a hell of a thing to learn and get right.

Well I had the best boxing trainer ever mate!

He made me fight each session in alternate Orthodox/Southpaw, Sometimes with one hand tied behind my back!lol.(he was oldschool)

After a while you realise what was your best left hook, Becomes your best left hook and your best right uppercut... If you get what im sayin,

Changing stance has made me a more Dynamic fighter, I can switch at will and throw opponents off, Its very handy to have. Well worth doing...

I train both mate yea, I find it invaluable for throwing opponents off and keeping them guessing. I'm an ambidextrous striker so I feel comfortable either way, although I'm faster with my left but more powerful with my right. Always good to have in your arsenal :thumb

We're doing 3 rounds of each stance next week, Though my coach is keen for me to switch completely I'd prefer to be consistently training both ways, it's good to be able to keep people guessing!

I try to switch around a little bit - makes me work harder to improve my left side as I know it's weaker than my right.

That and it's funny half way through sparring hehehehe.

Im a southpaw, but holding pads for orthdox ppl, and tapping the pads back at the as theyve hit mimicks the movement, so its helped me switch. My left becomes a fast and strong leading hand, but the right isnt as loose and acurate, but theres no problem with knees and kicks. And most of the time, when doing drills which require switching stations, alot of ppl cant manage to switch they way they hold pads, so I end up doing the whole session orthodox.
As for sparring I try and make ppl wonder which way id stand, or attack with, plus my stand point(c what i did there) is that if im in the ring and a take a step back at the same time my oppent attacks, I will not be unbalanced or out of my comfort striking zone.

I'm actually a southpaw but I tried switching when I joined a school that taught mma by a fixed curriculum (demo, drill then sparring). It was throwing sparring partners of me fighting southpaw so I mainly tried it for their benefit but now I'm really glad I did I feel as strong orthodox and being able to switch mid fight is a great trick.
