    boxing problem

    Hey guys,

I used to box for about a year and a half was coming along nicely but ended up getting injured and didnt go back until now (2years later).
Since Ive gone back all my weight has gone on to my front foot and i cant seem to keep it on my back foot. Can anyone see a reason for this, never had this problem before.

Any thoughts or advice is much appreciated

    Thanks
    Arran

probably hunching up leaning your body and head too far forward. A lot of people lead with their head naturally as they go to punch. Keeping a straight body position will both keep your head out of harms way and also keep your weight on the back not front foot. Its also hard to keep your weight back when skipping about the ring like a lot of boxers do. I limit my movement to only move when required and for a purpose and move with weight transfer and pushing rather than a step.
Phil Starr has some good books he has written, and one called martial mechanics is especially relavent here. Its a good read and short but helps lots to understand your body and how to use it effectively.

Its always temping to hunch over in order to give your body a good guard, but all this really does is offer up your head instead. Straight back but chin down and guard with your arms as much as you can, but your body can take a lot more than your head when hit.

Your probably preparing to over stretch your punches putting all your weight on the front foot ( feet to close together ), rotate a little more through the waste and try a wider base when punching, remember to step in with the jab as this will automatically widen your base.

Yeah my feet were a little too close. Im getting back to my best again now been training quite often and feeling more comfortable.

It was more me tending to hunch over a bit which was sending a lot of my weight onto my front foot.
