    2 clothing lines banned

RVCA and Clinch Gear have become the two latest additions to the UFC’s sponsorship blacklist, it was confirmed today. The bannings were the subject of much discussion among industry insiders at the weekend’s UFC 105 event, but were not confirmed until today.

RVCA has attracted the ire of the UFC by sponsoring Fedor Emelianenko for his fight with Brett Rogers on the recent Strikeforce/CBS show. As a long-time sponsor of lightweight champion BJ Penn, the brand is a familiar one with UFC fans.

Clinch Gear has been banned from the Octagon for obvious reasons. The brand is Dan Henderson’s own clothing line and as the UFC and he are no longer seeing eye to eye, the label is not welcome in the cage. Relations between UFC president Dana White and Henderson have apparently been cordial during negotiations but this latest move may upset the former Pride double-champion.

The UFC and a Zuffa have a history of banning certain brands from sponsoring athletes in the UFC and WEC cages. And earlier this year, an arbitrary sponsorship tax was also introduced with the aim of filtering out the small-scale companies that were finding their way into main-card sponsorship slots

People are saying Dana is being childish .. I think he is too an extent but it’s business

Clinch Gear is owned by Dan Henderson who is signing with strikeforce, why should the UFC allow a fighter who isn’t with them, increase his company size by using ufc fighters ? ..

RVCA, are promoting Fedor, a man the UFC has issues with , and it;s known worldwide , yet RVCA decide to pay Fedor money to wear a t-shirt .. add to the fact they have to pay Strikeforce money aswell, which means RVCA are aiding a rival business ..

    That’s not good for business

People are saying Dana is taking money out of fighters pockets, which I think is bullshit, because the fact is, there is no shortage of sponsors, and considering the sport is getting bigger, more sponsors will come

it's not childish whatsoever, like you say its business, nothing personal.

companies UFC have a vested interest in such as Tapout will be more favourable obviously but thats just the way it is, they got in there before another brand.

Be interesting to read literature on how footballers get boot sponsorships and how this ties in with their current club, and how some clubs purposely buy players that their kit manufactuers already have deals with... say Rooney and Nike, Nike make Man Utd kit.

Goes on across all sports, the companies that shake hands with the ufc will come to have more commitment to ufc fighters inturn the ufc fighters will be paid... would they be paid more if they sought out these deals independently? who knows....

Would ufc purposely pick fighters that make the clothing companies happy? or even their sponsors?

Say budweiser may say we want you to show more Hardy fights, or Tapout may say we want you to sign more mexican fighters as we want a bigger arket share in that demographic.

Deffo not childish, A business is a business, Or a charity!

Its the same for professional gaming teams, some sponsors just outdo each other and at the end of the day its the teams manager who makes the decision.

Everyone is looking to have a pop at Dana at the smallest opportunity though.

businessas usual for DW, i mean, just look at the relationship with affliction, and now theyre back in.
I also read a while ago, it will cost something like 250,000 fixed yearly fee to even advertise with a fighter (not each). dunno if this has been implented.

How? Through sponsoring a small fish who was lucky there was a last-minute injury in the maincard and are serving as replacement? I can't find many more scenarios, I need help understanding how small businesses find their way onto the main card.
