    JAMES TONEY =
“The person I wanted to fight right off the bat was Brock Lesnar. He’s a champion, I’m a champion and I wanted to do it. But they said I couldn’t do that. Then they said, ‘How about Kimbo?’ But I said, ‘That’s too easy. That’s like kicking a little kid’s butt.’ But then Randy started saying he wanted to fight me, so I said, ‘OK, you’re the first one getting it.’”

“I told Dana my goal is to hold the heavyweight championship of the UFC and in boxing at the same time. So as long as it takes me to get Brock Lesnar, that’s how long it’ll be. If Lesnar gets by Cain Velasquez, I’ll fight Lesnar in February or March. Lesnar ran away from Shane Carwin like a girl, but then Carwin ran out of gas and quit. But I’ll fight any of them, any time anywhere. That’s my motto.”

JAMES TONEY ON JONNY JONES =

Jon 'Homo' Jones better do his research before he talks [expletive] about me. He doesn't know anything about me. He's about to learn though because when I see Jon Jones, I'ma slap his ass. I don't play those games. He better learn how to fight before he talks shit about me. My debut fight in the UFC is against a Hall of Famer. Who the [expletive] did he fight in his first fight in the UFC? [Andre Gusmao] Isn't he like 22? He better go find some tapes of me because I'm not the one to [expletive] with and he gonna see that when I bump into his ass. Keep my name out your mouth boy."

    ----------------------------------------------------

JONNY JONES ON JAMES TONEY =

"Do you really think you're going to uppercut a collegiate wrestler when he's coming full force into a double leg dive? I think he [James Toney] is just really naive to think that with hand combinations alone he's going to be able to defend takedowns from the clinch and double leg dives. So I think he's just ignorant in a way and I don't really have a hard time calling him ignorant because of some of the statements he's made about our sport."

Forrest Griffin is ready to plug his book, but he's not ready to book a fight.

The former UFC light-heavyweight champ just launched a publicity tour for his new book, "Be Ready When the S--- Goes Down," so expect some random, choice sound bytes over the next few weeks. The first came Tuesday, when Griffin was asked about the possibility of facing Jon Jones. After explaining that he's not accepting any fights as he continues to recover from shoulder surgery, Griffin marveled at Jones' rapid ascent.

"That's just ridiculous," he said in an interview with WWUZ. "[Vladimir] Matyushenko's been around a decade. He fought Tito [Ortiz] for 25 minutes. He's a great guy. So I haven't really been paying attention, but I keep hearing he's the next big thing, and I'm inclined to believe it."

Griffin had been suggested as a possible foe for Jones because UFC President Dana White promised that the rising star would face a "top eight" caliber opponent. Currently, most of the UFC's top light-heavyweights are contractually obligated to other matchups, possibly forcing Jones into a long layoff despite a quick win over Matyushenko at UFC on Versus 2 this past weekend.

Griffin, though, suggested another idea. After being asked if he was over his Aug. 2009 loss to Anderson Silva, he threw out the idea of Silva facing Jones.

"I think they should fight. I really do," he said. "I think that's a great fight. I think Jones is the next thing, man. I've known this for a while, and I thought Brandon Vera would be the test for him."

Griffin is expected back in the octagon sometime towards the end of 2010. Until he gets back in the gym, though, he's not interested on speculating on an opponent.

"Here's the thing: I'm on sabbatical," he said. "I'm not taking any fights until I'm actually training. What's the point in saying I'm fighting anybody? I'm not fighting anybody."

"He's got the balls to fight me but there's no MMA fighter who has the balls to trade punches with me," Toney said of Couture. "If they do it's suicide."

Toney fielded several questions from readers who pointed out that Couture's wrestling background should make it easy for him to dominate Toney in the clinch and on the ground, but Toney was having none of it.

"If Randy tries to grab me I'll hit him so hard his grandparents will feel it," Toney said. "I keep reminding everybody, the fight starts standing up. To shoot you have to get close and when you do, you're going to get hurt."

And hurting Couture is exactly what Toney says he wants to do.

"I'm in the business of hurting people," Toney said, "and that's what I'm planning on doing."

"If you want to beat me up, make weight and come fight me in my category, my division," Silva said through his manager and interpreter Ed Soares.

"I haven't gotten bored," he said. "I like my sport. I like my weight division that I fight in, and I'm prepared to stay in my weight division."

Moments later, Silva emphasized that not only was he not bored, but that he planned to be at middleweight for a long time to come.

"He said that I didn't translate it exactly. He said he wants to retire fighting in his weight category," Soares said.

eeking to put an end to the widespread online theft of their pay-per-view events, the UFC has served subpoenas on websites Justin.tv and Ustream.tv, demanding that they reveal the names of users who illegally provided streams of UFC broadcasts on the sites.

The UFC press release notes that while the sites were originally developed to bring user-generated content to live audiences, many users have instead chosen to use the site to illegally broadcast or upload copyrighted material, including UFC events.

"I can't wait to go after the thieves that are stealing our content," said UFC President Dana White. "This is a fight we will not lose."

The UFC sold over 7 million pay-per-views in 2009, making them the largest pay-per-view provider in the world. That figures translates to around $350 million in gross revenue.

Still, the company believes it's lost countless millions more due to piracy from the streaming sites. In the release announcing the subpoenas, the UFC cites examples, saying that over 36,000 people watched a live feed of UFC 108 from a single IP address. Less than two months later, the same IP address supplied a feed of UFC 110 that was watched by nearly 80,000 people.

The company notes that "Zuffa encourages the development of new technology to deliver UFC content to licensed online platforms, mobile devices, and gaming systems. However, Zuffa does not condone the use of streaming video or other new technologies to violate intellectual property laws, and it will vigorously protect its copyrighted content against piracy in any medium."

Justin.tv and Ustream.tv did not immediately respond to request for comment, though both sites feature copyright policies that offer protection against intellectual property rights infringements.

The Ultimate Fighter 9 winner Ross Pearson says when he told Fighters Only magazine that he feels he's a "far better striker" than BJ Penn, he wasn't trying to run his mouth for the free press nor was he necessarily saying he was better than the UFC lightweight great.

"I wasn't calling BJ Penn out," Pearson said during a studio appearance on Monday's The MMA Hour. "I don't think I deserve a shot with BJ. I don't think I'm ready for a shot at BJ Penn. I wasn't trying to get publicity or anything like that. I think I'm a fighter at the end of the day and if I was going to fight someone, I look a the fight where I think I would win the fight. And I feel when my times comes I will be able to prove that I am the best striker in the lightweight division."

In the Fighters Only interview, Pearson was asked how he felt he matched up against the top lightweights in the UFC such as Penn and Frankie Edgar. Pearson compared himself with Penn.

"I think we're very different. We're all very good at doing what we like to do. BJ's ground game and wrestling is unbelievable, but I feel I'm a far better striker than he is," Pearson was quoted in the UK magazine. "I might never be as good as he is at one thing, but he might never be as good as me at another. I'm not near a BJJ black belt, but a fight is a fight and anything can happen, that's what makes the sport so exciting."

From his comments on Monday's show, Pearson wasn't necessarily trying to say he was better than Penn, but as a fighter, he has to pick out where his strength is, and as a striker, he's going to rely on his bread and butter.

"There was no calling out. There was no malice and no animosity. I wasn't trying to call BJ Penn out or anything like that," Pearson said. "But I do feel where I come from, the striking background and how long I've been doing it, I'm a seasoned stand-up fighter."

Pearson arrived in New York City this past Saturday to begin his training with a Big Apple all-star roster featuring the likes of Renzo Gracie, Ricardo Almeida, Vitor "Shaolin" Ribeiro, Phil Nurse and even UFC lightweight champion Edgar.

Pearson has already won three times inside the Octagon and if his rise continues, he may cross paths with Edgar.

But that won't stop Pearson from learning what he needs to know to evolve as a fighter.

"I don't have a problem with it and I think he wants to train with me," Pearson said. "Obviously we, I understand that somewhere down the line we could fight each other. That's just the business [of the sport]. I'm the type of person that, I want to learn from him and he might want to learn from the things I do."

Not sure what patriarchal category Yoshizo Machida fits in, but it seems like pappa Machida has had enough of his son running the 205lb division.

"I already said that he better not fight anymore, but I didn’t say it to him. I have expressed this desire just to my wife and his brothers. He doesn’t want (to retire) and says he still has many challenges. According to him 35 is a good age to stop. I think that up to 35 is still possible but after that it starts getting tricky."

    M1 CHIEF ON UFC

"We will not let ourselves to get owned. Fedor became so popular not inside the Octagon. So, long story short: 1. We would like to receive guaranteed payments. I know that if we agree for percents, they will cheat us. 2. Maybe not a co-promotion (like we offered before), but at least co-branding. 3. They also will have to permit Fedor participating in Sambo competitions, and during our last negotiations UFC were ready for that term. Now we have a co-promotion with We go 50-50 with them on our co-promoted events, but there’s still some problematic issues. We want our fighters to fight on these events, but they tell us “the crowd wants to see Americans."

    LIL NOG ON SONNNEN

“I think he's just talking nonsense,” Rogerio said in an interview conducted in June. “He is not even a real challenger to Anderson. I think other fighters have done much more in the division, such as Dan Henderson, Nate Marquardt, whom he won against, Demian Maia, who played with him like a child, and Vitor Belfort. He is enjoying his 15 minutes of fame. He will take a beating from Anderson, who will beat him like a child, will beat his ass and will shut his mouth.”

“He knows Anderson will beat him and he is enjoying his 15 minutes of fame, knowing that it will end,” Rogerio said. “He has no qualifications to compete for the belt -- that's the truth. He doesn’t have good boxing or ground, only good wrestling.”

Pat Barry could tell right away that he had a problem. He'd just floored his idol, Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic, for the second time in the first round of their UFC 115 bout with a beautiful right hand that landed flush on the Croatian's skull, and he knew immediately that he'd broken his hand in the process.

"The world couldn't see it because the camera wasn't close enough to my face, but as soon as I broke my hand – that was the second punch I landed that knocked him down – as soon as it happened, my lip was starting to tremble, and for two reasons. One, it hurt terribly. And two, I honestly thought that was going to be the end of my career. I never would have guessed that it was only one broken bone. I felt like all the bones in my hand were, like, entirely disintegrated."

The injured hand was a problem, Barry knew, but it wasn't the end of the world. He'd come into the fight with a game plan that hinged on two main weapons: his right hand and his right foot. At least he still had one. At least he could still kick his way to a victory even if his hand was shattered.

You know how this story goes. It's like that scene in a comedy movie where a beleaguered character remarks to himself that hey, at least it's not raining. Cue the thunder and lightning, the sudden angry downpour. Or, in Barry's case, the fractured foot.

"After the hand broke I panicked for a little bit, then I pulled myself together, thinking, it's just a hand, you've got other weapons," Barry said. "Then I threw a kick and broke my foot, and then I panicked. Complete, oh-sh*t-I-don't-know-what-to-do panic. I don't know how I got through the next two rounds. Honestly, it was like I could hear the clock slow down. Those rounds went from five minutes to about a half-hour each."

Part of how he got through, he said, was by putting his sense of humor to work for him. After the first, when he came back to his corner and told his coach that his two main weapons were now non-operational, the only advice he got was to get on his bicycle and try to score some points and survive for the next two rounds.

"I said, 'Excuse me? Did you not hear what I said? I got nothing.' So we started laughing about it, and that's what sort of enabled me to get back up for round two."

Barry managed to get off the stool for the second frame, but he was a fraction of the fighter he'd been in the first. He tried to talk himself into throwing the right hand. He kept seeing the openings for it, and it was tough to resist. He told himself to stop being a baby. How horribly could it hurt, anyway?

So he threw it. Bad idea.

"I almost screamed," Barry said. "I'm not manly enough to say that didn't hurt. It hurt a lot. I mean, a lot."

It didn't take "Cro Cop" long to notice the change that had come over his opponent. One minute he'd been knocked flat on his backside by a right hand from Barry, then it was as if Barry had decided to completely abandon the weapon that had been working so well, and Filipovic didn't know why. Rather than guess at the reason, he went straight to the source.

"We were on the ground in the second and he was on top of me punching me and he asked me what was wrong," said Barry. "He said, 'What's wrong with you? Why'd you stop fighting?' I told him, 'I broke my hand,' and he was like, 'Bullsh*t.' I said, 'No sir. My hand is broken. That hand is gone.'"

The way Barry saw it, there wasn't any point in lying to his opponent about it. Even if Filipovic knew that the right hand was no longer a factor, he'd still have to worry about the left. And besides, what were the chances that he'd really take Barry's word for it? He might as well tell the guy the truth, he reasoned.

Barry made it to the third round that night before finally being overwhelmed by a late surge from "Cro Cop." A sharp punch combo in the final minute dropped him, and a few seconds later Filipovic slapped on a rear naked choke that Barry, with his broken claw of a right hand, was unable to defend.

After the fight Barry took all sorts of criticism for letting his hero off the hook. People said he was too pleased with his own performance too early. They said he should have been trying to finish "Cro Cop" instead of high-fiving him. Some even said he didn't really want to beat his idol.

"Of course you always hear different questions and assumptions. Some people are like, 'I hope you got paid a lot to throw the fight,' which is just absurd. Then there's others saying, 'You were scared of beating your idol,' or the one that bugs me the most, 'You were showing him too much respect.' What does that mean? Does it mean, I got in the ring and respected his abilities in the fight? I don't know. How can you have too much respect for 'Cro Cop'? He's 'Cro Cop'!"

Now Barry's right hand is out of the cast six weeks early, thanks to what he sees as his Wolverine-like mutant healing ability. He still doesn't use the hand, though. Not even to brush his teeth or start his car.

To help the healing process along, he sings to his injured hand. "Rosanna" by the band Toto works best, he said, although "Africa" will do in a pinch.

It's hard for him not to feel frustrated by being so close to putting away his idol only to get injured and see the chance of a lifetime slip away, but he's trying to stay positive. It helps to remember the moment he would later be criticized for, when both he and "Cro Cop" paused to high-five one another and smile in appreciation of each other. That's something you don't forget, he said, even if you didn't come out on the winning end that particular night.

"How cool is it that 'Cro Cop' gave me a high-five twice in the first round? To me, that was an acknowledgement of my presence, an acknowledgement from him that, hey, you did show up to fight and you deserve to be in this cage. That's what I took from it. That means a lot."

If signed, it would be a battle of former UFC light-heavyweight champions, but a reported Quinton "Rampage" Jackson vs. Lyoto Machida matchup has yet to be officially added to the UFC calendar.

That's the word coming from UFC President Dana White, who responded to an MMA Fighting inquiry about whether the bout was finalized with a text reading "Not yet."

Still, at least one of the fighters has agreed to it. A source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to MMA Fighting that Jackson has agreed to the November bout.

Some sites have reported that the bout will take place on Nov. 20, but the source said the date and location of the fight have yet to be decided. A Nov. 13 event in Germany is a possibility for the bout as well.

    =================================================

After opening the door to James Toney, the UFC better get used to other boxers trying to wedge their way into the octagon.

The newest name on the list? Australian boxer and IBO cruiserweight champ Danny Green, who claims he wants to face Brock Lesnar next February, when the UFC likely returns to his home country. The cruiserweight division, for those of you who don't follow boxing, goes up to 200 pounds. According to BoxRec.com, Green weighed in at 184.75 for his last fight, meaning he'd give up around 80 pounds in the hypothetical matchup against the UFC heavyweight champion that will never, ever, in a million years happen.

Of course, there's a huge caveat to Green's interest anyway: He wants to fight under amended rules.

"It would have to be a stand-up fight," Green told The Daily Telegraph, Sydney's largest newspaper. "There's no way I could compete with Lesnar on the ground."

He may want to reconsider that statement. While no one would suggest Lesnar could hang with Green in a straight-up boxing match, even a "stand-up" match, as Green suggested, would put him at a serious disadvantage. Does he think he'd be able to keep Lesnar -- a former collegiate wrestling champ -- from bull-rushing him into the cage and savaging him with elbows to the head and knees to the body? What about throwing kicks into the equation?

Still, Green, who most famously defeated boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. via first-round KO last Dec., claims he's spoken with his management team about getting in touch with UFC president Dana White to set up the match. They should save their time. No athletic commission would sanction such a fight, and the UFC would have no interest in it anyway, since White himself has characterized the upcoming Toney-Randy Couture fight as a one-time "freak show," even though it will be contested under unified MMA rules.

For what it's worth, The Ring magazine ranks Green as the No. 7 cruiserweight in the world. Most likely, the statement is something of a publicity stunt, as Green is scheduled to defend his boxing title against Paul Briggs tonight in Sydney.

Meanwhile, Lesnar's next octagon date was recently locked up. He'll face Cain Velasquez at UFC 121 in October, and should he win, he'll have the Junior Dos Santos-Roy Nelson winner waiting in the wings.

The reason for these types of posts are ..

I usually use the site on my mobile phone , so it gets annoying going to multiple sitest to get news and info, and to get so much info in one thread makes a good read usually .. though not much help for my threads started numbers !!

this is a forum, so why not get all the best news in one thread .. makes it easier for people to stay up to date

also .. iceman, i completely forgot about the toney v jones drama .. that fight needs to happen, you;re right
