Toney(boxing) vs Couture (wrestling): This was what it was meant to be like
I know i am going to get some stick for this but for me Toney Vs Couture symbolises what Uultimate Fighting was setup for in the first place. To be a competition between different martial artists.
I know Ultimate fighting has evolved (into a mixture of both) and people will say Toney shouldnt have been allowed to compete, however i think thats wrong . Toney was a 90 fight veteran in 1 martial arts (boxing). If Toney's 1 martial art was BJJ no one would bat an eyelid.
Now i'm not going to defend Toney as i think that he:
wasted his boxing career by being out of shape
is disrespectful
Has an aversion to training
should have been sensible and respectful enough to have not fought an atg in his first fight
However if he had sparked Randy with hsi first shot, it would be a different story. Im not saying a fighter shouldnt diversify his skill mi, i just think that its unfair to say that boxers dont have a chance in MMA, as im sure if a prime Tyson was in there it could have been a different story.
As for Couture, i think the man is pure class both in and out of the ring.

I have to agree with the above. I thought the fight was a joke, Randy just went to get he job done no fancy action or anything. Dull & boring he should have beat him up not let him off the hook with a submission. Every other fight was far more entertaining, even the M1 stuff on the other side was better.

i would have liked randy to try and use kicks to start the fight rather than the finish it so quick but it was only a matter of time if we are honest

yeah, this is the problem with being a one trick pony against an MMA person tho - getting taken out at will.
Whilst I wanted the fight to happen as he is a boxing champ and to see if modern MMA was still way ahead - if we have lots more one style v's MMA you are gonna see lots more of the same (with the very rare surprise) - let's be honest if it was us, would you stand against Toney and risk getting hurt and loosing?...I think we would have all done the same - Couture still proved a big point and if anyone saw the post conference he turned down a chance to get in the ring with Toney - stating he would probably get knocked out and it would probably be an easy win for Toney (as it was for him last night) in that persons given skill.

boxers can't win in mma unless, the boxing is simply their base of a combination of art forms. I've always thought that once a base has been established, you can work on other things and become successful. If it's boxing, so be it but you need some kid of striking, grappling and submission discipline to succeed.
Some people will disagree with this and bring up some fighters that were/are one trick ponies but they're very rare. Take the british fighters for example. They have evolved from simple, traditional stand and bang fighters to learn wrestling, take down defence and some level of submission fighting why? not because they really want to learn new techniques but because they have to in order to succeed.
Toney could learn some new stuff and come back strong if he felt but he had 0 chance in an mma fight. True, he could have got that punch in and KO'd Randy but his stance was just so 'boxing' that all randy needed to do was take it and the fight was over.

am not stirring the shit here but i think he got exactly what he deserved..first of all hes a disrespectfull pig.
4 him 2 even think he was worthy at brock was a joke although it would have been good 2 watch brock pound his face in2 the canvas.
lastly il quote his post match interview (bla...bla...........blu....bla....fighter....blu. ...bla.....blu....fight....bla)

I'm with Kev on this.
He was way to full of himself post fight tbh.
I know you have to be positive about the situation but he took the piss.
He got what he deserved and I'm so glad it was Randy who gave it to him.
On the other hand if it was Brock it would of been better lol.:thumb

personally, I wanted him to be banged up even more - this is why ~I would love to see a post fight interview with him for 5 mins - to see what his excuses are and to see if he is anymore humble.
