The UFC Pay Disgrace rumbles on...

Seriously James Toney got paid half a Mil for essentially doing nothing other than looking like a complete fool.

The official fighter purses for those who competed at the UFC 118: "Edgar vs. Penn 2" pay-per-view on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, from the TD Garden in Boston, Mass., were released earlier today and passed along by the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission (via Sherdog.com).

Despite getting taken out early in the first round, heavyweight boxing champion James Toney got the last laugh after collecting a hefty salary of $500,000 for his submission loss to Randy Couture, who earned a flat rate of $250,000 for the win.

In fact, "Lights Out" was paid more than "The Natural" and BJ Penn, two of the promotion's top stars, combined.

"The Prodigy" took home $150,000 in defeat after suffering his second straight decision loss to division champion Frankie Edgar ($96,000). The next closest purse belonged to Demian Maia, who finds himself $68,000 richer for a unanimous decision win over Mario Miranda ($8,000).

Here is the complete list of UFC 118 payouts:

Maia def. Miranda via unanimous decision

Gray Maynard: $46,000 ($23,000 to show, $23,000 to win)

    Marcus Davis: $31,000

Joe Lauzon: $24,000 ($12,000 to show, $12,000 to win)

Whoa, considering how much work, potential damage, life style these guys live, those amounts arent a lot at all.

Then again, it can be argued that they can earn that money is less than 10 secs (but highly unlikely, i.e. a straight ko at the start).

Man, those purses are small, and James Toney, wth.

WOW .. First of all, Toney's agents did good work , on a seperate note, the UFC paymasters are fucking stupid, paying so much to an overweight hasbeen boxer

This is why the UFC need to approach couture or liddell to work in a suit role , because they will look out for fighters

:whs - it blows my mind - some of the purses make no sense when the loser gets more than the winner etc - do they work it via a percentage of pulling power or something...their does need to be a more structured pay scale - especially for the guys near the bottom of the card 8g's aint much when you could end up on a stretcher at that level.

It's always been that way and until the UFC takes over every other promotion they have to pay stoopid prices to people that shoudln't be getting it.

Look, I love BJ but when a fighter contending a belt gets paid more than the champion, something's wrong. James Toney on a half a million was about right right though - he was the one that the ppv bought to watch. I know to us he had no chance and even to us, as mma fans, couture is bigger than he is but in the US the UFC can not compete with boxing, which is why the US boxers are making millions per fight as opposed to thousands.

MMA is the second biggest sport in America (NFL being the first) boxing and WWE or F or whatever it is now is way down the list to MMA - I think it;s the traditional purses that "big" boxers get that made the trend for him to get so much in the UFC as well as stated the draw on PPV but still fookin sucks as we all know..as really he has won with a purse like (and made the UFC look like fools) that for just being a twat and stalking Dana..not bad for 4 minutes work (aka lay an pray).

If it wasnt an overweight hasbeen then i can understand

The UFC desperately need to be confronted by fighters
Hopefully couture or liddell get suit roles, and become dana's long term successors, because they will know that fighter pay is fucked up

    I would like to see

FOR YOUR FIRST FIGHT, A GUARUNTEED 5K TURN UP, 5K WIN BUS, AND THEN A GUARUNTEED 10K TURN UP FOR YOUR SECOND FIGHT AND OTHERS

I agree should be a structure as you say (incentives for win etc etc) set bands and so forth- obviously their will always be % purses for the star's I do not think their is anyway around that, However, at least this way the "Lower" fighters will get a better deal.
