    Leading up to a fight

For those in the know what happens to your training in the week leading up to a fight? Do you tail it off a few days before? keep working on fitness up until a day or two before? Not sure whats best to do. I've been feeling really drained recently, think im getting to my limit but i dont want to f*ck it all up now by doing the wrong thing.

    Let me know your experiences....cheers

    Okay.

If weight is not an issue * presuming you ahve made weight early * then you should be focusing on the technical aspects of your game to ensure you have every situation covered and drilled.

You can still hit the pads and heavy bag leading up to a fight but dont rush anything take you time. The day before your fight maybe some padwork just to keep you sharp and some slow transition drills along with skipping.

Normally leading into a fight for me consists of 2 a day sessions. For the week before the fight the morning consists of running * starting at 7 miles decreasing a mile each day up until fight day reducing the time of course. * Then i will go into rounds of shadow boxing concentrating on technique building from defensive techniques and each round working in the striking etc. Then i'll do a rolling session in the morning aswell to ensure my transitions are smooth.

The second session of the day will focus on heavy bag work, pad work and footwork drills with light sparring, to prevent injury.

Hope that helps for now mate. Whens the fight again?

yeah i agree, id go for just some light bag work and then some focus mits, work on timing, if your shattered there is no point in taking yourself to the limit because you will be a mess during the fight. if you have made weight then your cool to do whatever in my opinion. if you think your perfectly practiced then take a day off. if not then keep working. make sure your body gets the right things into it leading up to the fight too, i know a couple guys that let themselves go right after making weight and it was their undoing.

A few days out you'll be cutting weight probably so going full bore will just lead to overtraining, not what you want. like others have said just stick with technique stuff to keep your fitness up. Your not going to get any fitter in a week.
